Re:Form 0.8.5 Alpha is a polish release built from a day of testing Blockout and the brushes hard. Blockout settles into its smooth surface in a fraction of the time and has new switches for how strokes meet; alphas get an Invert on every brush and a proper capture-from-the-viewport; Rake, Carve and Relax behave the way they should; and light mode now reaches the start screen.
What version is Re:Form on now?
Re:Form is on v0.8.5 Alpha as of September 26, 2026. It makes Blockout's refined surface appear in about a fifth of a second, adds Overlay and Merge ends switches and point picking on any number of curves, gives every brush an alpha Invert, captures alphas from the viewport with a live preview, turns Rake and Carve with the stroke, lets Relax smooth pinch points, fixes the wireframe after a remesh with symmetry, follows light mode on the start screen, adds a viewport grey setting, and makes exporting brushes a Pro feature.

Blockout: quicker, and easier to steer
- The smooth surface settles faster. After each stroke the refined preview used to rebuild every stroke from scratch. It now keeps what it built and rebuilds only where something changed, so on a torso of eight fat strokes the smooth surface appears about 0.2 seconds after you let go, down from about half a second.
- A stroke started in the air stays in the air. It keeps its depth where it crosses other curves instead of climbing onto them.
- Overlay decides what a stroke started on another curve does: On, it rests on top; Off, it starts inside the curve and melts in with no bump, the way an arm grows out of a shoulder.
- Merge ends decides whether drawing onto a curve's end continues that curve.
- Points on several curves. Every selected curve shows its control points, Shift+click picks points on any of them, and a Shift box around points picks them. The gizmo, Delete, Size and Shift+right-click work across all of them. A box over empty space, Clear selection or Escape clears the selection.
- A calmer panel. Finish and Clear sit on top, then Stroke, Drawing and Mesh groups. Presets and the Alpha profile are gone for now, the combined transform tool is hidden, and pen pressure for Blockout moved to Preferences ▸ Input.
- If a mesh is too dense for Blockout's layer, the tool you were using comes back instead of leaving Blockout picked with nothing to draw into.
Alphas
- Invert on every brush. The panel's Invert used to be for paint brushes only. It now works on every brush, and it is the same switch as the Invert in the large alpha preview.
- Capture from the viewport, with a preview. Capture… now sits beside the alpha slot. The square shows a live Depth or Silhouette preview while you frame, and the capture takes exactly what the square shows. It used to land shifted from where the model sat on screen.
- Edit and Rename. Right-click one of your own alphas in the library for Edit, which opens the large preview on it, or Rename.
- A new Dot alpha: a soft, round white spot, sharper than Soft dot.
- The big brush card at the top of the panel now shows the loaded alpha.
Brushes
- Rake and Carve turn with your stroke. Their teeth used to point the way the stroke went a whole brush radius earlier, so curves came out twisted and corners fanned. They now follow the turn, and the grooves stay as deep.
- Relax smooths pinch points. Besides evening out the mesh it now removes small spikes and dents where vertices bunch up, without shrinking the form. Releasing Shift in the middle of a smoothing stroke switches to Relax, and the panel now shows Relax while it does.
- Remesh with symmetry no longer shows a wireframe of triangles and ring-shaped patches on one half: both halves come out as clean quads.
Light mode and the look
- The start screen and the loading screen follow light mode, with the logo in a dark tone, and the project and autosave tiles are lighter with readable labels.
- In light mode the brush icons on the panel card and in the picker take a mid-tone of your theme instead of near-black.
- Viewport grey: Preferences ▸ Viewport sets how light the grey behind the model is, 40% in dark mode and 60% in light mode by default.
- Passionfruit and Bubblegum themes, and Passionfruit's light mode is a true purple.
Plans
- Brush export is Pro. Free keeps unlimited saved brushes and importing .brush files; exporting saved brushes as .brush files needs Pro. On Free the Export button shows a PRO badge.
- The pricing page now lists share links: five at a time on Free, unlimited on Pro.
Is Re:Form 0.8.5 stable enough for real work?
Re:Form 0.8.5 is still alpha software. For this release, all 83 automated tests passed, including new ones for Blockout's air strokes, Overlay, Merge ends and multi-curve points, the refined preview matching a full rebuild, a remesh with symmetry keeping its quads, Rake and Carve following a right-angle turn, Relax removing a pinch spike, alpha capture landing where the square shows, and brush export on each plan. A project that matters should be saved as a .clay file as well as in the cloud.
Every tool is on the Free plan, up to about 12.5 million triangles. Pro plans raise the triangle budget, add STL, GLB and FBX, brush export, unlimited share links and a commercial licence.
What is still rough
- Carve at a large size on a tight curve can still show the straight edge of its tooth; at working sizes it follows the curve.
- Fissure 01 can show fine ribs along its walls at large brush sizes.
- Blockout carves cut blockout strokes only, not your other layers.
FAQ
Can Free users still save brushes in Re:Form?
Yes. Saving brushes and importing .brush files are on every plan. Exporting saved brushes as .brush files is part of Pro.
How do I make an alpha from my own sculpt?
Click Capture… beside the alpha slot, turn the shape toward you and frame it in the square. The square previews the result as Depth (a height alpha) or Silhouette (the shape alone); Capture adds it to your library.
Can I change the grey behind the model?
Yes. Preferences ▸ Viewport has a Viewport grey setting for dark mode and one for light mode. Thumbnails and share previews use the same grey.
