Re:Form 0.8.6 Alpha is about getting from nothing to a posed figure faster. Blockout learns to draw precise curves and flat silhouettes, the finished blockout comes out already split into parts, and a new Pose tool bends those parts at their joints. Around that sit the tools people kept asking for: a mask that spreads along the surface, hole closing, gradient fills, height and normal renders, and Remesh for really big imports.
What version is Re:Form on now?
Re:Form is on v0.8.6 Alpha as of September 27, 2026. It adds Curve and Sketch modes to Blockout, Mesh Sets from strokes and Pose by Mesh Set, Mask Expand, Close holes, Gradient Fill, Silhouette / Depth / Normal render types with 16-bit depth, a viewport background preference, a notice after an unexpected close, Remesh for meshes up to 25 million triangles, and a notice for phone-sized screens.
To update, reload the page. There is nothing to install, and your browser autosave and saved projects carry over. If you haven't tried it yet, open the studio in your browser. The Free plan needs only an account.
Blockout: Strokes, Curve and Sketch
A new row at the top of the Blockout panel picks how you draw. Every mode makes ordinary Blockout strokes, so blending, profiles, strands, twist, symmetry, the gizmo, Duplicate, Undo and Finish work the same on everything.
- Strokes is Blockout as it was: drag to lay a tube of volume.
- Curve is a precise curve tool. Click to place points on a surface or in the air, drag while placing to pull out handles, Alt+click for a sharp corner, and Closed makes a ring. Select a curve later and its points and handles are there to drag; click a point to give it its own size. To curve turns any drawn stroke into an editable curve with the same shape.
- Sketch draws flat silhouettes. The view turns to orthographic Front; drag a lasso or click out a polygon, hold Shift to snap to the grid, and the outline becomes a Solid with a Thickness, an Edge (sharp, bevelled or rounded) and a Taper that thins it like a blade — ears, fins, wings, armour plates. Your reference images show behind the model, and a traced point lands exactly on the picture.
- CrossForm, drawing front and side views to get the 3D shape, is on the row with a "Soon" tag, as are Sketch's Flat and Revolve results.
Curves and sketches are saved with an unfinished blockout in your .clay file.
Parts that pose themselves
- Finish makes Mesh Sets. With Mesh Sets from strokes on, which it is by default, every stroke becomes its own Mesh Set when you press Finish, and a mirrored stroke's two sides are two sets — the left arm and the right arm are separate parts from the start.
- Pose by Mesh Set. A new Pose tool on the left rail. Click a part, such as a forearm: everything else is held still, the gizmo sits at the joint with the part it hangs from, and its axis runs along the limb. Turn it, and Joint softness blends the bend across the joint. Shift+click adds the hand; with symmetry on, the other arm follows mirrored. Leaving the tool gives you back your own mask.
Block out a creature, press Finish, and it is ready to pose.
Masking, holes and paint
- Mask Expand. Press on the model and drag: the mask spreads out from where you pressed, along the surface, so it goes round a fold instead of jumping a gap. Falloff softens its edge; Ctrl spreads an unmask.
- Close holes. A button next to Weld fills every opening with a patch that follows the curve of the surface around it. Max hole size keeps a plane's border or a bust's neck from being closed by accident.
- Gradient Fill. The Fill brush has a Fill type: Linear blends from the Primary colour to the Secondary along a line you drag, and By height from bottom to top, with Start, End and Blend to place it. A Swap button exchanges the two colours.
Renders and the viewport
- Render types. Render image has a Type: Beauty as before, Silhouette in black on white, Depth — a height image of the model, saved as a 16-bit PNG so gentle slopes don't step — and Normal. Free renders carry the small Re:Form mark, as Beauty does.
- Viewport background. Theme grey, a Solid colour, or a two-colour Gradient, from View ▸ Background.
Bigger imports, calmer crashes
- Remesh big meshes. Remesh now takes meshes up to 25 million triangles, so a dense multi-part import can be joined into one solid. It runs in the background with each step shown and a Cancel button that leaves your mesh and Undo history untouched. Smaller remeshes come out exactly as before.
- After a crash. If the studio closed unexpectedly, the next launch says so and offers to open your latest autosave or send a report. Nothing is sent unless you press Send, and none of your sculpt is ever included.
Re:Form on a phone
Re:Form runs on any device with a capable graphics chip, tablets included — the only thing a phone lacks is room to sculpt. Opening the studio on a phone-sized screen now shows a short note instead of a cramped studio, with Email me the link and Copy link so you can pick it up on your computer or tablet, and Continue anyway if you want to look around. Only the screen size decides: tablets, Chromebooks, laptops and desktops go straight in, and the website works on phones as before.
Is Re:Form 0.8.6 stable enough for real work?
Re:Form 0.8.6 is still alpha software. For this release, all 112 automated tests passed, including new ones for every feature above: curves, sketches and their saving, Mesh Sets from strokes, posing about a joint, Mask Expand going round a gap, hole closing, gradient fills, 16-bit depth renders, the crash notice, big-mesh Remesh with Cancel, and the phone notice at common screen sizes. A project that matters should be saved as a .clay file as well as in the cloud.
Every tool is on the Free plan, up to about 12.5 million triangles. Pro plans raise the triangle budget, add STL, GLB and FBX, brush export, unlimited share links and a commercial licence.
What is still rough
- CrossForm, and Sketch's Flat and Revolve results, are coming in a future update.
- Undo after a very big Remesh (above about 3 million vertices) can't bring back the mesh from before it; save first if you might want it.
FAQ
How do I pose a figure I blocked out?
Press Finish with Mesh Sets from strokes on, pick the Pose tool, click the part you want to move and turn it with the gizmo. The pivot is already at the joint.
Can I use a Depth render as a height map?
Yes. Depth in Render image saves a 16-bit PNG by default, nearest point white and farthest black, measured over the model itself.
Why does the studio show a note on my phone?
A phone screen is too small to sculpt on comfortably. The note lets you send yourself the link for a computer or tablet, or Continue anyway.
