Re:Form 0.8.9 Alpha is mostly about the studio getting out of your way. It now speaks eleven languages, says plainly what a Pro limit is when you reach one, tells you whether your sculpt is saved, and adds a smoother camera, a Pose tool with soft joints, and a row of fixes to Clay, Smooth and radial symmetry.
What version is Re:Form on now?
Re:Form is on v0.8.9 Alpha as of October 21, 2026. The release adds ten new interface languages, a "why Pro" window at every Free plan limit, a save-state readout in the status bar, an optional smooth camera, the Pose tool with Joint softness, and Timeline shown as a row of steps. Project files on your computer (.clay) moved to Pro.
To update, reload the page. There is nothing to install, and your saved projects and autosaves carry over. From this release a studio left open while a newer version goes live tells you so, with a Reload button, instead of letting tools such as Clip, Boolean and Remesh fail quietly. If you haven't tried Re:Form yet, open the studio in your browser. The Free plan needs only an account, with no card.
Which languages does Re:Form speak?
Re:Form 0.8.9 speaks English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, Russian and Polish. The studio starts in your browser's language when it has it, and Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ General ▸ Language picks another. The change happens at once, without a reload. The guides, the website and the legal pages are in English for now.
Everything the studio shows was collected first, more than 3,300 pieces of English in all: menus, panels, tooltips, dialogs, the brush and tool names, and the messages that explain why something was refused. Each language has its own table and one glossary for the recurring studio words (sculpt, brush, mask, layer, remesh, subdivide), so a string added later is translated with the same words as the ones around it.
A few things are never translated, on purpose:
- Names you give things. Your project titles, saved brush names, share titles and anything you type stay exactly as you wrote them.
- Product names. Re:Form, Re:Link and Re:Sync stay as they are in every language.
- Key names. A shortcut shown as Ctrl+D reads the same everywhere.
If your browser is set to a language the studio does not have, it stays in English. A language picked in Preferences is kept in that browser, so it is there the next time you open the studio.
What happens when I hit a Pro limit on the Free plan?
From Re:Form 0.8.9, reaching a Pro limit on the Free plan opens a small window that says what you reached, what Pro gives for it, and the price: $9.99 a month or $99 a year. Nothing you were doing is changed or lost. Checkout opens in a new tab, so your sculpt stays open, and Pro is on when you come back, without reloading.
Before this release some of those limits were silent: Apply on an Array that would pass the Free triangle budget did nothing, with no word on why. Now every one uses the same window:
| Where you reach it | What the window says |
|---|---|
| Any step that would give a layer more than 4 million triangles: Subdivide, merging layers, Array, Remesh, a Boolean or Hollow, Reflow, finishing a Blockout, importing a mesh, shell panels | Pro sculpts up to 80 million triangles |
| Live Topology at its Free limit | Pro's Live Topology works up to 6 million triangles |
| A sixth share link | Pro shares as many sculpts as you like |
| A sixth saved project | Pro keeps 50 projects of up to 512 MB each |
| STL, GLB or FBX import or export | Pro adds those formats in both directions |
| A render above 2048 px | Pro renders at 4096 px and 8K |
| File ▸ Save local… or Open local… | Pro saves .clay project files to your computer |
| Re:Link to a program that needs Pro | What Pro adds for that link |
Every one of those steps is refused before the window shows, so there is never a half-finished operation underneath it. Not now, Escape, or a click beside the window closes it and you carry on at the density you had. The full plan comparison is on the pricing page.
Alongside the window, the triangle count in the top-left corner of the viewport now shows how close you are to your plan's limit by its color alone: amber from 60% of the limit, which means the next subdivision would pass it, and red from 90%. The limit is 4 million triangles on Free and 80 million on Pro.
Can I tell whether my sculpt is saved?
Yes. In Re:Form 0.8.9 the status bar shows where your work stands, beside the version number: Saving…, Saved ✓ 2 min ago when your account holds every change, Autosaved ✓ 2 min ago when only this browser's autosave holds them, or Not saved. A stroke made while a save is running still counts as not saved.
The readout is judged by the studio's edit count, so a save that started before your last stroke does not count as holding it. It takes no clicks and never blocks anything, and its tooltip explains what each state means.
The distinction between Saved and Autosaved matters. Browser autosave protects you against a crash or a closed tab on this machine. A save to your account (File ▸ Save) is what opens on another computer you sign in to. If the readout says Autosaved for a long while, press Ctrl+S.
Viewport, camera and the options bar
A handful of changes make the viewport calmer to work in. None of them change how a brush behaves.
- A smoother camera, if you want it. After an orbit or a pan the view glides on a little and eases to a stop, and the scroll wheel zooms in a short ease. While you drag nothing is eased, so the view follows the mouse exactly, and a new press stops a glide at once. It is off by default. Turn it on in Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Input ▸ Smooth camera and set how long it glides with Smooth camera amount.
- The floor is on by default. A new sculpt shows the Perspective floor plane under the model. The Floor button on the options bar toggles it, Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Viewport turns it off for new sessions, and saved projects keep their own setting.
- Reference images in Perspective too. References now show in both Perspective and Ortho, and the Refs button sits right after Persp and Ortho on the options bar. References start off; loading an image turns them on.
- A tidier options bar. Persp, Ortho, Refs, View and Fit are one group, and a pop-out opened from the bar closes when you press anywhere outside it.
- Fill and rim lights you can reach. Right-click Lit on the options bar and the light rig shows the Fill light and Rim light beside the key light, each with its angle, height, strength and color. They were set up in 0.8.8 but could not be reached. Renders and turntables use them.
- Size and strength at the cursor. While you change the brush's size or strength, by slider, shortcut or a typed value, the new value shows in a small label beside the brush cursor and fades a moment after you stop.
- Keys in the tooltips. Hovering a brush or tool on the left rail shows its keyboard shortcut after its name, read from your own shortcuts.
Sculpting: Pose, Clay, Smooth and radial symmetry
The sculpting changes in 0.8.9 are one tool back on the rail and three corrections.
Pose is back, with soft joints. The Pose tool sits below Move, Rotate and Scale on the tool rail and poses a part of a sculpt by its Mesh Set: click a forearm and turn it at the elbow. Joint softness spreads the bend over a band each side of the joint, measured along the surface, so a limb bends smoothly instead of folding like a hinge, and the blend never spills onto a part that only sits close by. A softness of 0 is the old sharp bend, and with Symmetry on the mirror-side limb bends the same way.
Clay keeps the mesh even. On rounded forms the Clay brush used to drag the mesh's grid out of line, and a clay build turned jagged after a few dabs. Each Clay dab is now followed by a relax over the same footprint, which slides the points along the surface and leaves the built shape alone. The shape Clay builds is the same as before. On Re:Form this was one cause of a lumpy-looking sculpt.
Smooth after Subdivide. Smoothing after a Subdivide made with Wire off could leave one side jagged with Symmetry on. It now smooths both sides evenly.
Radial symmetry shows where it lands. With Radial on, the brush cursor shows a ring at every copy around the axis, so you can see where each one will touch before you press. Radial and the mirror axes are now one or the other: turning Radial on turns Symmetry X, Y and Z off, and turning a mirror axis on turns Radial off. In 0.8.8 they could be combined. The symmetry guide covers when each kind is the right choice.
Timeline, the brush picker and the keyboard
Timeline as a row of steps. The Timeline button, added in 0.8.8 as a slider, now opens a row of small blocks, one for every step of your sculpt. Strokes, operations and saved states each have their own color, and Now is at the end. Click a block to go back to just after that step, and Now to return. Hover a block to see which step it was, the brush and its settings, how long ago, and a small picture of the model just after it. The full reference is in the Timeline guide.
A tidier brush picker. Every brush group is one row with its name on the left, in two columns that line up: Build, Surface, Planes, Sharp and Detail on the left, and Move, Mask, Mesh Sets, Clip and Mesh on the right. Nothing wraps onto a second line any more.
One Macro brush. The macros are played with a single Macro brush beside the Mesh brush. With it picked, the brush panel lists the macros to swap between, the built-in Scale, Stitch, Rivet, Scar and Pores and then your own, with Record macro, Import and Export just below. The picker keeps only My brushes at the bottom.
Keyboard shortcuts, simpler. Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Keyboard drops the ready-made layouts. What is left is a search box, Reset all, Export and Import, and a × beside each key to take it away. More actions now come with a default key:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| [ and ] | Brush size |
| Shift+[ and Shift+] | Brush strength |
| X | Symmetry X |
| Ctrl+D | Subdivide |
| Shift+D | One subdivision level down |
| Shift+W | Wireframe |
| Ctrl+I | Invert the mask |
| Alt+M | Clear the mask |
| Ctrl+S | Save |
| Ctrl+Shift+S | Save as |
What moved to Pro in 0.8.9?
Project files on your computer moved to Pro in Re:Form 0.8.9. File ▸ Save local…, which writes the open project as a .clay file, and File ▸ Open local…, which opens one back, were on every plan in 0.8.8. On Free they stay in the File menu with a PRO badge, and choosing one explains what Pro gives and the price.
Everything else about saving stays on every plan: File ▸ Save, Save as… and Open… to and from your account, the browser autosaves, and OBJ import and export. Nothing in your account changed.
Saves to your account give the Free plan five projects that open on any machine you sign in to, and the autosave covers the gap between saves. Keeping your own copies and backups on disk is where the Pro line now sits, beside the bigger triangle budget, the extra formats and the commercial license. Full detail is on the pricing page.
What else changed in 0.8.9?
- Usage numbers only if you say so. The usage counts (which tools and brushes are used, never your sculpts or anything you type) are now off unless you choose to share them. Creating an account asks in an optional box that starts unticked, and Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ General ▸ Share usage numbers switches it at any time.
- Told when Re:Form updates. A studio left open while a new version goes live shows a bar at the top, "Re:Form has been updated. Save your work, then reload to keep every tool working." with Reload and Not now.
- One light mode for the website and the studio. Switching between dark and light on either switches both.
- Fullscreen from the start screen. The start screen's top-right corner shows your plan, a fullscreen button and Sign out, and no longer shows your email address.
What should I know before relying on it?
- Re:Form is in alpha. Things change between releases, and 0.8.9 moved a feature from Free to Pro. Browser autosave and saves to your account protect your work, and the status bar now tells you which of the two holds your latest change.
- A sharp Pose can still pinch. A very sharp bend with Joint softness can pinch a little on the inside of the joint. Raise the softness or pose in two smaller steps.
- Only the studio is translated. The docs, the website, the Terms and the Privacy Policy are in English. A translation that reads oddly is worth an email to [email protected] with the language and the string.
- Radial and mirror symmetry no longer combine. If you relied on both at once in 0.8.8, the stroke now lands with one or the other.

FAQ
How do I change the language in Re:Form?
Open Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ General ▸ Language and pick one of the eleven languages. The studio changes at once, with no reload, and the choice is kept in that browser. The default is to follow your browser's language. Names you typed yourself, product names such as Re:Form, and key names are never translated.
Is the "why Pro" window a paywall?
No. Every step it appears for was already refused on the Free plan; the window only explains what was reached and what Pro gives for it, with the price. Nothing is changed or lost, Not now closes it, and you keep sculpting at the density you had. Checkout opens in a new tab so your sculpt stays open.
Did .clay project files stop working on the Free plan?
Saving and opening .clay files on your own computer moved to Pro in 0.8.9. On Free, File ▸ Save and Open… to your account, the autosaves and OBJ import and export all still work, and a .clay file you downloaded earlier opens again on Pro. Your five saved account projects are unchanged.
